Property Type: Office

Description: Office space for rent in historic uptown Kingston. Located on the only intersection in America where the buildings on all four corners were built pre-Revolutionary War. 154 sqft office with wide plank hardwood floors make this space warm and cozy. Heat, hot water, and electric are included with rent. The building has AC, and you will have use of the kitchen and the outdoor garden/patio area. All the amenities of uptown Kingston are just steps away, and Rough Draft coffee is across the street. History of the building: The Franz Roggen House, located at 42 Crown Street. The house was built by Franz P. Roggen shortly after his family immigrated from Switzerland in 1750. The Roggen family occupied this 1752 house for close to 200 years. After the British burned the building, the walls remained standing, and the main beams reportedly were used as gallows. It's possible the building was still used in this way when Vanderlyn was a schoolboy across the street. The hanging beams were incorporated into the reconstruction of the house in 1800, perhaps as a warning against traitors and miscreants. The building's history of supporting grassroots justice are borne out in the second-floor closet's use for the Underground Railroad to hide fleeing slaves. Roggen House now houses a Doctors Office, Law Office, and Financial Service Firm. This building is another fine example of nineteenth century adaptation to an earlier stone house. An exceptionally large stone gable accommodates double pointed windows above a curved canopy and diamond-paned entrance door. The latter is inserted into what may be an earlier entrance-way, with side lights. The six-over-six sash have also been retained from the earlier period, as has the simple cornice, which was matched on the rake of the gable.
